Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Health and Safety Manager opening to join our Clyde Operations organization.
Our Clyde operations are in a 2 plus million square foot, state of the art manufacturing facility, employing more than 3000 associates. Clyde is located about an hour from Toledo and 2 hours from Cleveland. The public schools are highly thought of and there are many world class colleges and universities within easy driving distance. There is lots to do away from work: boating, fishing (all sorts of water recreation), an internationally famous amusement park (Cedar Point) and many other fun activities. What You Will Do
The Health and Safety Manger will ensure the safety vision, goal and daily mission of One Team for Zero Exposures (“One for Zero”) is understood, embraced and communicated to achieve a sustainable safety culture and lead the continuous improvement of the operations safety performance. This position is the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for Whirlpool Clyde Operations Health and Safety management systems.
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Health and Safety Manager is a member of the operations Leadership Team and manages a team comprised of safety engineers, technicians, a safety assistant and the third party health center vendor. The incumbent is responsible for developing strategic H&S plans that drive continuing performance improvement.
Lead cultural transformation with respect to safety.
Develop, implement and enhance the employees’ ability to eliminate, and control work related injuries and illnesses and damage to company property through assessment, coaching and training.
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results
Manage initiatives that drive improvements in Health and Safety compliance and performance across the operation in line with Whirlpool’s commitment to Corporate Responsibility
Manage and consult on safety and health processes to assure proper execution of practices in accordance with applicable internal and external regulations.
Monitor developing SH&E federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and risk initiatives; analyze potential impacts to business system operations; provide senior management with recommendations and approach as appropriate.
Coordination, development and engagement of H&S team and leadership with operational personnel.
Participation with the identification, development and implementation of H&S goals and strategic vision.
Oversees contractor safety program and related performance.
Participates in region-wide special projects as required.
What You Need to Succeed
The candidate must have proven experience driving and sustaining safety culture change organizationally.
The position calls for a leader with experience developing and implementing safety programs with a strong knowledge of workers’ compensation management, OSHA regulations, occupational safety, and industrial hygiene.
Bachelor’s Degree in safety, environmental or other natural science/technical discipline.
Advanced degree in the disciplines of EHS, Engineering, Natural Sciences or Business Management.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); ability to interact effectively with all levels of management with personnel at operating facilities.
10+ years of EHS management experience developing, implementing and evaluating safety and training programs in the oil & gas midstream, refining or petrochemical industries.
Proven ability to evaluate issues, define requirements, and implement action plans to accomplish H&S goals throughout an organization.
Ability to effectively interface with representatives of regulatory bodies.
Safety-related certification preferred (CSP, CHST, CIH, etc.).
