Job Description

As our multi skilled Service Engineer, you’ll operate and maintain the TETRA Base Stations, Microwave Transmission, Enhancer equipments & Customer Control Room elements of the Airwave Network within agreed SLAs to maintain service to our customers.

You will be able to work from heights, with experience in rigging duties and maintenance of antenna and transmission systems. You must be able to demonstrate an aptitude to develop and work towards building on your own skill levels.

As our Service Engineer, you will be required to and must be willing to travel within the UK and stay away from home when required.

In your role as our Service Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Microwave transmission operation and maintenance
  • MUX/DEMUX operation and maintenance
  • Rigging/climbing activities
  • Antenna replacement
  • Feeder/connector test and replacement
  • Microwave equipments replacement/re-pan
  • Structural Inspections
  • And once trained and competent, you will respond to Network Incidents and will be required to partake in a 1 in 4 call out (1 week in 4)
  • You will complete planned maintenance procedures
  • Site planned maintenance visual inspection and functional check
  • 17th Ed electrical inspections
  • Lightning Protection Inspections
  • Customer Control Room inspections
  • And will provide TETRA BTS operation and maintenance
  • Capacity upgrades/downgrades
  • VSAT 1st and 2nd line maintenance
  • Mobile asset deployment and recovery
  • Mobile base station
  • Mobile VSAT equipments
  • Masts
  • Towable and hand portable generators


Basic Requirements

  • You will hold a full valid driver’s license.
  • Ideally you’ll hold a HNC in a Telecommunications or Electronics discipline, along with:
  • Knowledge of:
  • Radio frequency principles
  • Transmission theory
  • TETRA networks
  • Experience of:
  • Microwave transmission systems
  • Line of sight
  • Multiplexors
  • Rigging duties including Health and Safety requirement.
  • AC/DC power systems
  • Test and inspect
  • Replacement of batteries
  • Deployment of generators
  • Working at Height
  • Antenna replacement
  • ODU replacement
  • Feeder termination
  • IT/IP configuration
