Our site in Liverpool is a Centre of Excellence for egg-based influenza vaccine manufacturing – it is one of the biggest biotechnology sites in Europe and the only injectable influenza vaccine manufacturer in the UK. It also produces the only licensed adjuvanted seasonal influenza vaccine. 

Currently for our Liverpool facility we are recruiting for the Head of Environment, Health and Safety. The role, reporting to the Site Head, will be the high profile champion and leader within the Liverpool Site Management Team for HSEBusiness Continuity Management and Seqirus Emergency Management. This will involve driving site HSE communication, leading by example, setting standards and coaching members of the Site Management Team on their personal responsibilities for the HSE performance of their functions and business segment.

Role Accountabilities: 
• Propose and agree on Site HSE improvement plans and targets that meet Seqirus requirements.
• Develop and implement robust HSE processes, policies, procedures, metrics and systems that will enable the site to achieve its HSE compliance goals.
•Lead the implementation and champion the on-going application of Emergency Management and Business Continuity Management systems at Liverpool, providing support in the following areas to site functions:
-revision of Business Continuity Management assessments
-arranging cross functional meetings and organisational structures
-reviewing/tracking performance and reporting to management/key stakeholders on and off site
-designing and providing trainings
-ensuring adequacy and effectiveness of local resource
-arranging exercises and assessing the effectiveness of Emergency Management arrangements
 
•Lead, manage and develop the site HSE team, including the HSE advisor, HSE co-coordinator and Occupational Health resources.
•Be responsible for all aspects of Biosafety as the site’s Biosafety officer.
•Be responsible for the management of all aspects of the site’s environmental programmes to maintain the environmental permit and report under the corporate HSE DMS reporting system.
•Develop and maintain good links with key external regulators, in particular the UK Health and Safety Executive (biosafety and general inspectorate) and the Environment Agency (EA), Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Health Protection Agency. Manage as necessary the requirements of the UK Energy Trading Scheme, Environmental Permit and all other relevant HSE legislative requirements at the site.
•Develop links and work with other HSE groups within Seqirus to ensure that good practice is shared. Ensure the correct reports are in place as required by Seqirus and UK HSE groups.
 
Profile:
 
  • Extensive experience of HSE management, preferably within the pharmaceutical, chemical, or manufacturing industries
  • Experience of working at a senior level within a complex corporate manufacturing environment
  • Scientific / engineering degree; NEBOSH diploma  - essential; IOSH Managing Safely certificate – desirable; NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management – desirable
  • Given the key leadership aspects of this role, we are looking for someone with strong presence, well- developed influencing skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with associates at all levels, from shop floor to senior divisional management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and presentational
  • A passion for Health Safety and the Environment combined with energy, commitment and enthusiasm, high personal standards and a real drive for simplicity and innovation
