Technician Materials and Process Technology  m/f


The Technician Material and Process Technology RD&E is expected to support the successful settlement of process and product development projects with focus on core technology development in the field of powder and binder development of cemented carbide products, advanced powder shaping processes (extrusion, direct pressing, injection molding) and final sintering of the products. The Technician Material and Process Technology RD&E will be reporting to the Manager Material Science RD&E.

Objective of the position is to support driving developments of new processes and advanced materials in close cooperation with the Global RD&E team involving Manufacturing Engineering and Product Engineering. The position is key to further expand Kennametal’s leading position in various product groups in the market through a strong, motivated, internationally oriented and effective R&D team.

The candidate is a good team player and can work effectively in a global matrix organization.



  • Responsible for planning and conducting tests, investigations and analytical analysis and support projects and subprojects in alignment with the technology road map for binder systems, powder shaping processes such (extrusion, direct pressing, injection molding) and all related peripherical processes such as mixing, needing, sintering and sinter tray treatments as well in alignment with product portfolio road map responding to highest quality recommendations and cost effectiveness.
  • Responsible for adherence to delivery date, budget and quality of the investigation results and contribute to build and enhance the know how within the RD&E group. The Technician Material and Process Technology RD&E is autonomously planning and conducting test complexes, responsible for compiling results and providing first pre-summaries.
  • Participate in developing requested experimental and analytical lab capabilities and enable future product and process developments.
  • Support efficient and in time implementation of new products and processes in manufacturing in cooperation with the plants and the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team.
  • Work out and deliver technical input of new equipment and contribute in developing investment and budget plans as well as global implementation plans in cooperation with Manufacturing and Finance.


  • Engineer or Bachelor degree in Materials Science
  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in similar work environment
  • Previous experience in the tungsten carbide, or chemical industry with experience of working internationally sufficient to demonstrate the following:
    • Clear evidence of success in supporting new development of new processes, material formulations, binder systems and applications
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and innovative.
  • Perfect languages (written and spoken) skills in one of English or German
  • Good communication skills to all stakeholders
