Role purpose

To contribute to the development of new and improved cereals Doubled Haploid methods and technologies to increase efficiency and productivity

To manage and collaborate internal and external projects driving forward new Doubled Haploid methodology

  • Design, plan and carry out experiments that drive forward cereals DH method development
  • Evaluate the success of the methods tested; interpret results and data obtained to draw valid conclusions.  Use the findings to suggest modifications to enhance and develop methods
  • Report findings to the Cereals DH Lead, Global Cell Biology Lead and internally at team meetings.  Seek feedback and opinions
  • Play key role working on (and leading some, including PlantLab DH project) internal and external collaborations.  Regularly share findings; present work in online and face to face meetings.  Use knowledge to suggest ways to optimise collaborative experiments
  • Review and research literature for relevant DH methods; keep abreast of new publications and technology developments
  • Participate in Global DH network to liaise with other Doubled Haploid/Cell Biologists
  • Ensure material tracking and data analysis files are kept up to date at all times.  Organise germplasm database to record the data observed; document for optimum stage for response and detail response level for all materials screened
  • Supervise and train other team members to assist with method development experimentation as required
  • Work alongside Cereals DH Lead to incorporate new methodology into production.  Ensure any transition is smooth and successful without negatively impacting production
  • Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and reagents stocks required for DH method development
  • Ensure Health and Safety levels are of a high standard, review and update Risk Assessments and SOPs for activities relating to method development
  • Ensure that quality principles are adhered to for all operational activities
  • Support the annual budgeting processes by providing input to Cereals DH Lead on projected spend, risks, challenges and opportunities
