About this Job:  This role sits within the Global Indirect Procurement team and reports into the Global Category Manager, HR & Professional Services. The role has a particular focus on Global leadership of the Learning & Development and Compensation & Benefits categories, including providing close functional and strategic direction to a geographically dispersed group of regional Category Managers. The job holder will be responsible for the ongoing development, validation, sustainable implementation, and review/update of the assigned Category strategies ensuring close alignment with business requirements and will contribute to the development of procurement strategies which will ensure Syngenta’s position as a customer of choice. The role interfaces closely with the Global Category Manager and the Procurement Business Partner organisation to ensure business requirements are clearly understood and taken account of in the strategy. He/She will provide expert external supply market knowledge across the Categories and also ensure appropriate Supplier Relationship Management strategies are in place for strategic suppliers. He/She will manage risk with third parties as well as achieve operational compliance across all Indirect Procurement activities relevant to the Categories and deliver targeted savings within the Categories ensuring no adverse impact on quality and time requirements

 

Accountabilities:

• Provision of functional and strategic direction, coaching and motivation to a team of Regional Category Managers (Up to 4), some of whom may be dispersed throughout Syngenta.

• By analysis of spend, detailed understanding of the supply market and internal business requirements, develop and deliver the Category strategies achieving the approval of the GIPLT, the Global Category Manager and agreement and support of Procurement Business Partners and their internal clients.  The strategy should ensure most efficient use of the various buying channels (Strategic Sourcing, P-Cards, e-catalogues etc)

• Builds strong relationships with the Procurement Business Partner organisation, and where appropriate internal clients, in order to ensure an appropriate strategy is developed.

• Lead multifunctional/multinational sourcing teams and projects to achieve contracts, orders or agreements that are aligned with the category strategy and hence deliver appropriate savings agreed with line management, Procurement Business Partners and internal clients

• Develops, implements and manages SRM and risk programs appropriate to the requirements of the categories

• Directly manages strategic and critical supplier relationships where appropriate

• Fulfills the procurement business partner duties for the Learning & Development and Compensation & Benefits categories in the Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland

 

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

• Strong procurement experience, in a senior procurement role

• Capability in developing sourcing strategies and leading the implementation

• Leadership of complex global sourcing teams and projects

• Ability to develop performance measures for Categories with stakeholders

• Deep knowledge of the relevant supply markets

• Strategy development and implementation

• Strong stakeholder management

• Contract management skills

• Working in a multi-national, multi-cultural environment

• Project team leadership (geographically dispersed and cross-functional with proven results)

• Proven record of success in negotiations with suppliers

• Supplier Relationship Management experience with strategic suppliers

• Ability to influence peers and indirectly managed teams

• Good communication and presentation competencies

 

Preferred Knowledge & Experience:

• Knowledge of Business Process Outsourcing category would be advantageous

Education/Qualifications:

• Degree or equivalent

• CIPs desirable
